Canal It Up is a not-for-profit organisation which strives for a better management of the waterways in Brussels and tackles three environmental problems: the floating trash, the bad water quality and the lack of biodiversity in the canal and the river Senne.

Canal It Up collects and processes your personal data for the following purposes:

  5. To compile statistics in order to optimise the functioning and communication of our organisation.

Purpose 1: Answer your questions

In order to provide answers to your questions, Canal It Up processes the following data: e-mail address as well as any other personal data provided by the sender. Your data is saved to ensure a smooth communication. The email is then archived in a map on the email server for a period of 6 months.

The legal basis for the data processing is consent (article 6.1.a of the General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR). Canal It up is the data controller and pledges to protect your data at all times, not to transfer them to third parties without your being informed and not to use them for a different purpose that the one for which they have been collected.

Purpose 2: Organise our activities

In order to organise our activities, Canal It Up processes the following data: first name, last name, email address and phone number. They are saved through archiving of the email exchange in the email server as well as in the American application Time Tree, used for the planification. Time Tree has thus access to your data and you can find their privacy policy here. Canal It Up saves your data for a period of 6 months to be able to answer any questions you might have.

Purpose 3: Thank volunteers in a personalised way

In order to thank every person taking part in our kayak trips, Canal It Up processes the following personal data: first name, picture as well as any personal data provided by the volunteers in the framework of the activity. They are processed in the form of illustrated stories of the kayak trips, which are published on our website as well as on our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn). No picture will be taken without your knowledge and you will have several times the opportunity to express disagreement with the use of your data to this end, before, during and after the activity. The pictures are then archived on our personal computers.

Purpose 4: Keep you informed of our activities

In order to keep you informed of our activities and in case you have subscribed to our newsletter, Canal It Up processes the following personal data: email address. They are saved in a computerised file by Intuit MailChimp, which acts are third party and has access to your data. You will find their privacy policy here.

The legal basis for the data processing is consent (article 6.1.a of the GDPR). Canal It Up is the data controller. The duration of the data processing is limited to the period of subscription to our newsletter since you can unsubscribe at any moment by clicking on “unsubscribe from this list” at the bottom of each newsletter or by sending us a request by email to info@canalitup.org.

Purpose 5: Compile statistics to optimise the functioning and communication of our organisation

In order to optimise the functioning and communication of the organisation, Canal It Up processes the following personal data: first name, last name. They are registered in an excel file. They are saved for a period of 3 months to help us determine the proportion of registration to our activities as compared to the number of information requests, as well as to help us better identify our audience (type of groups: private (family, friends, leisure), professional (business, not-for-profit), school (primary, secondary, higher education)).

Your rights

According to article 13.2.b of the GDPR, you have the right to request from the controller access to and rectification or erasure of personal data or restriction of processing concerning the data subject or to object to processing as well as the right to data portability. In compliance with article 13.2.d, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Furthermore, you can request to limit automated decision-making based on your personal data, including profiling.
