DUO OUTINGS FOR SCHOOLS

Canal It Up launches DUO outings for schools, which combine trash fishing by kayak and the visit of either the Sewer Museum, the wastewater treatment plant North or the incinerator. This programme aims at raising the students’ awareness regarding the topics of the quality of waterways in urban areas, of litter and of the waste management in general.

These DUO outings are intended for students in the 5th and 6th grade of secondary school. All the participants have to be older than 16 and be able to swim. Depending on the option chosen, the activity will last five to six hours. The first part of the day – the trash fishing by kayak on Brussels canal – will last for two and a half hours for a group of 20 participants. The students are welcomed by one of our guides, they help prepare the material, get a short presentation on the association and its mission, get into the kayaks to fish out the trash for about 45 minutes, sort the trash and put the material back in the end. Important to note: for safety reasons, the students should always be accompanied by a teacher on the water. The second part of the day consists in a guided tour of the incinerator (2h), the wastewater treatment plant (1h30) or the Sewers Museum (1h).

To organise a DUO outing, think about possible dates, Fill in the contact form to see if it suits us, and then plan your visit with the institution you want to visit after your kayak trip.

DUO OUTING
WITH THE SEWERS MUSEUM

The Sewer Museum invites you on an unusual trip into a very hidden side of Brussels but which is absolutely vital for the running of the city. An active museum with the River Senne playing the leading role. A museum that tells the story of when, why and how the sewers were built, describes the sewer workers job in this underground world and explains the city’s water cycle.

DUO OUTING
WITH THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

The site is transparent and entirely open to the public. A guided tour of the plant, organised on request, is offered to discover the challenges posed by water and the water treatment process. The protection of water resources, the fight against the pollution of waterways  and of underground water-bearing beds is the first priority of the site. Thanks to a clear and simple explanation of the process, visitors can gain an insight into all technical operations and follow the path taken by the water.

DUO OUTING
WITH THE INCINERATOR

Bruxelles-Energie plays an essential role in waste management. Taking a tour of Bruxelles-Energie is answering the following questions :

– In which context does Bruxelles-Energie intervene ?

– Why does Bruxelles-Energie wholeheartedly support waste prevention, reuse and recycling .

– Which processes and technologies does Bruxelles-Energie utilise to recover residual waste ?

– How does Bruxelles-Energie protect the environment ?

So many questions and many more which will be answered during the exciting tour of our plant. The tour is free and lasts about two hours. It consists of a screen presentation, a guided tour of the plant and a debrief with Q&A.
